One of the best things about being a child is that your imagination can run wild. Before the burdens and responsibilities of adult life set in, you think that anything is possible. If you want to be driving a flying car in the future, then you can. It doesn’t matter in the slightest if such a thing isn’t possible.

The other common childhood fantasy vehicles are fire engines and tractors. Both great vehicles, with some definite bonuses, but not the most convenient for everyday life. But there is definitely a pattern emerging in the cars most of us desire from an early age: size. Basically, the bigger the better. One of the prime considerations for any child considering their future car is how many friends they can fit in the back. Even as kids we recognise that the ability to carry passengers is extremely important. Of course, as kids we’re probably doing it more out of a desire to show off than for any more practical reason. And it’s not just passengers, we also want our cars to be able to carry rockets and steam trains (let’s assume the more mature equivalent is climbing gear or surf boards).

But most of all, we want them to be fast and go around corners at top speed. Now the second requirement here we probably grow out of, especially when we actually get behind the wheel of a real car for the first time. But we still want the best engines. And Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler have always had some of the highest-performing, most finely-tuned engines available - a used Jeep Adelaide may have had several owners, but you can guarantee it will still run like new!

We all grow up and our needs and desires change. The practical limitations of life and, well, physics, get in the way. Flying cars might be out the question, there aren’t even any ‘skyways’ in Ridleyton yet, but that doesn’t mean that everything we want as a kid changes. Most people never get to have their perfect childhood car. For them it turns out to be too much of a stretch of the imagination. Until you save up enough for that fire engine of course.
