Used 300C Adelaide: What Will The World Be Like In 100 Years Time?

As it’s the start of a new year, every time you open a newspaper or magazine, the pages are full of predictions for the coming twelve months. But how about looking further into the future? In 1900, an American civil engineer called John Elfreth Watkins (not too many Elfreths around these days) made a number of predictions about what the world would be like in the year 2000.

Published in the Ladies’ Home Journal, the article was called ‘What May Happen In The Next Hundred Years’. In it, he discussed his ideas about what may happen in the area of 29 different fields of study, after consulting the country’s ‘greatest institutions of science and learning’.

So, how successful was Watkins? Well, he didn’t do too badly. He was more or less right about ten subjects, including digital colour photography, increasing height, mobile phones, television, tanks and bigger fruit. It’s no a bad effort really. Although why he came up with bigger fruit is beyond us.

So, where will we be in 100 years from now? Will our world still be recognisable? Will we still have the motorcar? Will you still be able to see a Jeep Cherokee Adelaide, Dodge Nitro or pre-owned Chrysler 300C on Adelaide’s streets? In all probability, yes you will. These are three car manufacturers that have almost all lasted a hundred years as it is, and they don’t look likely to be going anywhere quickly. The engineering might be different but the designs will still be recognisable. Why change perfection, after all?

In fact, one of the things Watkins was wrong about was the plight of the motorcar. He predicted that in 2000 there would be no more cars in large cities. He got that one a little wrong. But we’ll give him a break as in 1900, the full potential of the car had yet to be fully realised. But one thing was for sure, they were here to stay then and will be for a few more years yet.

So what about our predictions for the future? What do we think might happen? Well, for starters, cars like Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler will continue to improve, providing the best possible means of transport for millions of people all over the world. Jeep Adelaide will continue to pioneer off-road machines and Dodge and Chrysler will set new standards for comfort and urban motoring. Oh yes, and the fruit will be simply enormous. And you heard that here first.
